Tennis in Medellin

Imagine it: wake up to a beautiful mountain view, the smell of amazing Colombian coffee in the air and the cool breeze blowing though the open window. This was my experience in Medellin, Colombia. The city made me feel Energized and ready to hit the court! I could feel The buzz of the city as it starts its day, the crisp, cool mountain air hitting my face, the softness of the clay Court underfoot. Then the excitement hit, the anticipation of the ball coming toward me, the sound of the perfect hit coming off my strings. It’s pure magic! Tennis makes me happy! It’s such a thrill!

Tennis in Medellin, Colombia is something really special. Medellin is home to the most perfect tennis weather, in my opinion. I would show up to the court with a light jacket because it was in the mid 60s. After, leaving my morning hitting session I would only need a t-shirt - 75 degrees during the day. As a morning player, this is perfect weather for me. The weather in the Southern United States during the summer can become truly unbearable and makes playing impossible. In Medellin, you can play YEAR-ROUND outside, which is a big win for this city!

I love to people watch and Medellin is a great place for that. After leaving the courts, I would see folks from all walks of life going about their day; motorcycles revving all around, professionals going to work, kids saying goodbye to their parents as they happily board the bus to school. Medellin is a great place to be. I love taking it all in!

Medellin also has some of the best things to do. You can find world famous Botero sculptures in “El Centro”, or visit Comuna 13 and explore the neighbourhood which was a stronghold of Pablo Escobar’s CArtel. You can experience how much it has transformed to become a vibrant part of the city’s offerings.

There is so much more to Medellin though. There are always many people hanging out with friends, getting dinner, going to watch football/soccer games or families taking evening walks to get ice cream. Colombia has a very family oriented culture and it’s apparent in everything they do.

Medellin offers it all. It’s a great place to play tennis and have fun!
